Where We’ll Travel

Wondering how far we’ll travel? If the destination is less than 25 miles away from New York City (as determined by Google Maps), it will be free. For destinations 25+ miles away, there will be a small fee per musician.

Though typically the farthest we’ll travel is 2-3 hours each way in a day, we have an incredible network of musicians in cities across the country, so we can help connect you with one of our ensembles that’s closest to you.

Planning a New York wedding?

We’d be honored to be part of your big day! We can also play for any and every kind of special event, including anniversaries, birthday parties, corporate functions, holiday gatherings, and bar and bat mitzvahs. See our Wedding and Special Events pages to learn more.

Kirin McElwain.jpeg

Kirin McElwain

Cellist

Perhaps the only cellist to have ridden a bicycle across the continental United States, Kirin McElwain has a knack for finding cellos to practice on in the unlikeliest of geographic locations. That said, she is still on the lookout for a travel cello capable of being strapped to the back of her bicycle.

Passionate about performing the music of our time, Kirin’s current focus is power: capacity: agency, a multi-year commissioning and performance project on the theme of power. Kirin is also a frequent collaborator within the New York City dance community, working with dancer/improviser Sarah Chien and compositional improvisation company The Lovelies. Kirin has been a collaborator at Mark Morris Dance Center, the Joffrey Ballet School, and Ohio University and has presented work at the Never Before Never Again Festival and on the Royal Jelly series at Triskelion Arts.

Kirin has shared the stage with pianist Judith Gordon, John Vanderslice, Boyz II Men, tune-yards, and Vulfpeck. She was the cellist for the world premiere of “Almost Morning” by Jeff Beal (House of Cards) at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater. Since June 2015, she has been the cellist for the indie rock band Miracles of Modern Science, with whom she has toured the United States, Canada, and Sweden. Kirin has been featured on Indiana Public Radio, the University of Rochester’s WRUR, Portland’s XRAYfm, and UC Berkley’s KALX.

Kirin holds a B.A. in Economics from Smith College and an M.M. from Temple University. Kirin lives in Brooklyn, NY in an apartment full of cellos and bicycles.
